Interrelation of managers' individual psychological features and peculiarities of their management activity implementation at the initial stage of career development

Introduction. The results of a scientific study of the first stage of managerial career development of the heads of structural units of the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia are reviewed. Particular attention is paid to the issues of psychological support for employees who are at the initial stage of a manager career development and do not have experience in implementing management activities. Materials and Methodical Toolkit. The hypothesis about the relationship and interdependence of the individual psychological characteristics of managers at the initial stage of becoming in office and the features of their implementation of management activities was confirmed by a representative sample group of 286 law enforcement officers who were first appointed to the positions of managers. When conducting psychological diagnostics of managers at the initial stage of development of their management careers, an individual-typological questionnaire (ITO), a questionnaire “Strategies for Overcoming Stressful Situations” by C. Hofboll (SACS) were used. Some biographical data of the studied category of employees, features of their career development before being appointed to the position of a manager are taken into account. The color test of relations (CTR) by A. M. Etkind is used to study motives, the hierarchy of the motivational sphere, and current needs. Results of Survey. Along with psycho-diagnostics, socio-psychological research was conducted in service teams with newly appointed managers. The main socio-psychological types of novice managers are highlighted. The results of the study are the basis for drafting a program of psychological and managerial competence development among the leaders of the “novice” and significant competences for the successful implementation of management activities. Conclusions. The following types of novice leaders were identified: «Democrat», «Imperative», «Professional», «Cautious». The success of the implementation of management activities by novice managers depends on the personal qualities of the subject of activity; on the specific of the situation and the manager's ability to measure behavior strategies with circumstances in the context of management process; on the development of the necessary competencies. Depending on the individual and personal characteristics, various strategies are emerging to overcome the stressful situation associated with the beginning of a managerial career.
