В статье рассматривается один из самых малоизученных эпизодов в истории якобитского движения - заговор, сложившийся в конце 1690 г. в среде английской и шотландской аристократии с целью свержения короля Вильгельма III Оранского, пришедшего к власти в результате Славной революции, и возвращения британской короны его предшественнику - Якову II Стюарту. Автор статьи предпринимает попытку установить причины и действительные масштабы заговора, выя- вить политические силы, которые были в него вовлечены, и определить, насколько значительную угрозу комплот Престона представлял для действующей власти.
