Transformation of literary image (as exemplified in the child`s poem "The house that Jack built" and its translation into Russian)

The article suggests discussing the challenges of translating children`s literature, considering it a specific one among other genres. Children are the target audience that`s why the process of translation demands taking into consideration the specific features of the readers and reveals the creative possibilities of writers and translators. The problem of preserving the literary image is considered to be one of the main issues that induces the translators to use the techniques which help to create the target text esthetically, meaningfully and communicatively equal to the source text. The article aims at proving that the deviations from the semantic accuracy of some linguistic units do not prevent the translators from preserving communicative equivalence at the text level.
