"Страсти свв. Перпетуи, Фелицитаты и их сомучеников" и вопрос о преследовании христиан в Римской империи при Септимии Севере

В статье рассматривается дискуссия о гонении на христиан в Римской империи при Септимии Севере. Автор анализирует аргументы сторонников и противников версии о существовании эдикта, запрещавшего христианский и иудейский прозелитизм. Сведения об установленном императором запрете происходят из неоднозначного и сомнительного источника - «Истории Августов», но они могут подкрепляться сообщением Евсевия Кесарийского о гонении в Александрии при Севере и рассказом о мученической смерти в Карфагене героев «Страстей свв. Перпетуи, Фелицитаты и их сомучеников». Однако положительные оценки в адрес Септимия Севера, высказанные современным ему известным христианским богословом Тертуллианом, и отсутствие сведений об общеимперском масштабе гонений делают более основательной позицию противников существования эдикта. Анализ «Страстей свв. Перпетуи, Фелицитаты и их сомучеников» в контексте дискуссии об историчности эдикта не подтверждает версию о появлении в начале III в. каких-либо новых антихристианских инициатив. В этом мученичестве отсутствуют сведения о каком-либо широком преследовании христиан: казни подвергается конкретная небольшая группа верующих. При этом нет оснований считать, что их обвиняют именно в нарушении запрета на обращение в христианство. На допросе прокуратор Гилариан добивается от Перпетуи и других задержанных только ответа на вопрос, являются ли они христианами, так как со времен Траяна положительный ответ рассматривался как достаточное основание для вынесения смертного приговора. Судя по всему, законодательная база для преследования христиан при Септимии Севере не претерпела изменений. Однако предполагаемое путешествие императора по Северной Африке и вспышки гонений против христиан в Александрии и Карфагене могут быть связаны между собой по другой причине. Энтузиазм местных элит, готовившихся встречать первого императора - выходца из Северной Африки, мог усиливать уже существовавшие и провоцировать новые конфликты между христианами и сторонниками традиционных верований. Вероятнее всего, арест и казнь Перпетуи, Фелицитаты и их сомучеников объясняются стремлением провинциальных властей поддерживать общественный порядок во вверенной им провинции и не допускать народных возмущений при подготовке к визиту императора.
