The work considers the role of chemical education in the formation of a highly professional specialist, the importance of chemical knowledge and skills in the general system of training engineers. The inconsistency of the level of chemical education in secondary school with the requirements necessary for the formation of chemical competencies of students at the university and possible ways to solve this problem are shown. The importance of continuity in chemistry training during the transition from secondary education to higher education was noted. In the process of studying chemistry, the importance of the educational component of the educational process for the formation of the student's personality is shown. The importance of chemical knowledge for the formation of a highly intellectual personality of a student with a natural science worldview is shown.
