The work considers the role of chemical education in the formation of a highly professional specialist, the importance of chemical knowledge and skills in the general system of training engineers. The inconsistency of the level of chemical education in secondary school with the requirements necessary for the formation of chemical competencies of students at the university and possible ways to solve this problem are shown.
