Parents’ Psychological Violence against Children due to School Marks

Introduction. The problem of parents’ psychological treatment of their children is acute. The interpretation of the main category of “psychological violence”, which is ambiguous, uncertain and incomplete in psychological science, is still relevant. The aim of the research was to study the parents’ psychological maltreatment of their children due to low school marks. Materials and Methods. The method of content analysis was employed, which allows for a quantitative and qualitative analysis of texts as products of the respondents' activities, parents being questioned. Results and Discussion. The social argumentation of the scientific problem of parents’ psychological violence towards their children is given. The scientific argumentation of psychological violence is carried out by studying the degree of scientific development of the psychological phenomenon under consideration. The article presents the results of a study of elementary school students with regard to revealing parents’ psychological violence against them because of the school marks. The social demands for overcoming psychological violence are determined. Three risk factors influencing the presence of patterns of psychological violence are highlighted, which include social, pedagogical and psychological ones, with examples given. Conclusions. The authors identify three factors which affect the patterns of psychological violence, these are social, pedagogical and psychological ones. 31,25% of cases reveal psychological violence against children due to school marks.
