The study reviews the problem of training of students majoring in social and cultural studies to work with disabled children. The paper analyzes the scientific literature, laws and regulations concerning the training of future social and cultural experts to do this work. Based on the revealed contradictions, the research explains the necessity of the students’ specialized training in this type of activity. The paper introduces and elaborates on the concept of readiness of a future social and cultural expert to work with disabled children. The study notes the problems of designing a model of developing the readiness of a student majoring in social and cultural studies to work with disabled children in a higher education institution. The target, content, management, and effectiveness are the main components of this model. The authors present the performance criteria for the educational process of developing the readiness of the students under review to work with disabled children (motivational, cognitive, activity-based, reflexive ones).
