The paper considers historical significance of the Russian diplomatic mission to Vatican in 1525. Dmitriy Gerasimov at the head of this mission proved himself an experienced Latin interpreter and a person of exceptional erudition. The author demonstrated an interest expressed by a group of intellectuals of the Holy See to the person of Russian diplomat. Memory’ accounts on the Russian diplomatic mission kept by the later family chronicle of the papal nuncio F. Chiericati have been preserved at the Vatican Apostolic Library.
