Novorossiysk police in 1917-1924

The article analyzes the formation and work of the Novorossiysk police.In March 1917, the Russian Provisional Government created national militia instead of police. In the Kuban region the work on the formation of national militia was headed by K.L. Bardizh, Commissar of the Provisional Government, member of the four State Dumas of the Russian Empire, in the Black Sea province this work was headed by N.N. Nikolaev, member of the IV State Duma. In Novorossiysk police was transformed into city militia on the 8th of March 1917. The position of the Chief of the Novorossiysk City Militia was held by: I.N. Spiridonov, Zhitomirskiy, S.K. Naumov, N. Telyatintskiy, S.A. Shchekotko, N.M. Pokrovskiy, A.P. Karkevich, G.A. Kozlovskiy. After the setting of the Soviet power that post was held by N.M. Pokrovskiy, V.N. Mal'tsev and I.P. Filipenko. The information about the personnel of the Novorossiysk city militia, aspects of its work, public image of the militia and problems which it faced in its professional activities is contained in the informational reports of the commanders of the city (district) militia units and protocols of their communist bodies. Activities of the Novorossiysk militia included fighting against smuggling of tobacco, vine, spirit, alcohol distilling, debauchery, prostitution, violation of order in cities and also charity activities.
