The article regards the motif of trauma in the work of Sebastian Faulks «Birdsong». The originality and the scientific importance of this philological study is great as the analysis was based on the language of the original work to make a full analysis of all the artistic originality of the work. Beginning with the conceptualization of trauma in contemporary scientific and literary literature, the authors defined the concept of injuries, which are treated in the article as a consequence of tremendous emotional shock that violates a person’s awareness of time, self and the world. It is established that Faulks uses the injury and its consequences as a key element in the characterization of characters and as particular artistic means of actualization of personal characteristics of the characters. Faulks systematizes the traumas of the main characters considering the influence of traumatic states in their personality and life. The results of the systematization is presented in tabulated form.
