The models of rock culture as its subjects’ figurations

In this article are examined the models used to describe rock music, based on the basis of the categories of «subculture», «counterculture», «mass culture», «polystylistic culture». The author describes the advantages and disadvantages of these models, relates them to specific stages in the history of rock music, creates his own model, based on the understanding of rock music as the basis for coherent, complex, autonomous, historically variable social and cultural phenomenon named rock culture. The basis of the static states and the dynamics of rock culture, according to the author, are the figurations of its subjects - musicians, mediators and audience.
