Country folk in Russia: specific of social integration

The article presents the analysis of social integration factors of the countryfolk, living in four rural areas in Belgorod region (Russia). The study had two stages and included quantitative as well as qualitative research methods: first of all, the survey ( n = 715) of country people aged 18-70 in order to explore the specific features of their social integration process; secondly, the expert survey ( n = 23) devoted to study the activities of main social agents, managing regional social policy and including government and non-government organizations. As a result, the main factors, influencing the effectiveness of social integration of the country folk have been identified: 1) the maintenance of traditions and an active participation in rural community’s life; 2) the infrastructure’s development and the transportation accessibility; 3) the economy’s type; 4) the type of settlement (town, village);5) the degree of trust in local authorities and the assessment of local social services’ activities. It is essential to take into account that the current processes of social integration of the country people, on the one hand, are due to the consequences of urbanization as a world trend and, on the other hand, it is due to the influence of a new, reverse process of de-urbanization. The results of the study conclude that current state social policy should be more effective to bridge the gap between the social conditions of people living in cities and rural areas, especially with regard to the access to education, health and social services, transportation, employment, etc. The improvement of quality of life of villagers allows to revive the most of rural settlements and attract youth to village.

Methodological basis of the study includes approaches to intergenerational solidarity. The following issues were studied: stabilityof familyvalues, processes ofmutual assistance and solidarity between different generations, familyimpact on the individual well-being ofits members, main conflictsarising in thefamily, familyand friendlyrelations, attitude to other generations, gratitude and sense of equality, health, leisure, using ICT, availability of paid work, participation in social and political as well as volunteer activities, social capital, idea ofoldness etc. The quota sampling (sample size - 629 interviews) was based on the distribution ofelderly population aged 65 to 74 years in Spain (including the islands). The only distortion of the theoretical sampling was inability to build it on quotas that would accurately reflect the distribution of the selected age population with children, since official statistic data are unavailable to the public on the number of parents with children byage group. Locations of interviews were chosen randomly, taking into account the distribution of the elderly population aged 65 to 74 years across the country, divided into autonomous regions (17) and locations (5 types). Selection process was based on 85 indicators. Territorial areas and within them streets for interviews were also randomly selected according to each indicator within the selected locations. Numbers of buildings and floors were chosen randomlyto search for individuals matching the sampling (meeting the quota requirements), and then they were interviewed. The following conclusion was made: the value of individualism is growing in society, family solidarity helps older people to overcome many psychological and social problems.

Mobilis in mobili: оплата проезда и справедливость в маршрутном такси

Данная статья посвящена проблеме справедливости в маршрутных такси Волгограда. Эта проблема решается в рамках социологии мобильности. В статье рассматривается мобильное сообщество незнакомцев в маршрутных такси. Это сообщество конструируется с помощью mobilis in mobili - медиа - различных гаджетов и денег. Поездка представляет собой осцилляцию пассажира между отчужденностью и вовлеченностью. Вовлеченность, в частности, проявляется в наблюдении за движением чужих денег в процессе оплаты проезда. В статье приведено этнографическое описание повседневной оплаты проезда в волгоградских маршрутных такси. При этом деньги оказываются включенными в моральный порядок справедливости или даже создают этот порядок.

It is a well-known fact that psychotropic medication often results genitourinary and sexual adverse effects '. Accurate estimation of medication induced sexual dysfunction is difficult to obtain because many patients fail to report them and clinicians neglect to inquire about them. Sexual dysfunction may be idiosyncratic or associated with medical or psychiatric illness as well, making assessment of medication related dysfunction difficult. Authors used the technique of bulbocavernosus reflex latency measurement as a routine procedure in checking the functional innervation of the genital area. Coaxial needle electrodes are inserted into the bulbocavernosus muscle. Stimulation is on the dorsal side of the penile shaft and can be done using ring electrodes of a surface stimulator. The intensity required in this case is usually 5 to 20 mA and the duration is 0.1 ms. Values are measured to the onset of the negative peak. We consider the values 34 + 3 ms (mean + 1 SD) as fully normal, 38-42 ms as dubious. Values > 42 ms are pathological. We found that 69 % of the men presenting > 42 ms values complain about disturbed or missing erection, while only 17 % of the dubious group (DG) and 13 % of the males with normal values (NVG) do the same. When receiving a psychotropic medication the overall rate of erectile dysfunction increases to 16 % in NVG, while to 77 % in DG. While initial and after-drug-induction percentages do not differ too much in NVG, they show a great difference in DG. On the basis of these preliminary findings we suggest that bulbocavernosus reflex latency should be screened before initiating a psychotropic medication and, if there is a choice, drugs with less sexual side effects should be given to patients with dubious latency values, predicting a greater likelihood of the development of a drug-induced erectile dysfunction.

Power and animals: a foucauldian theme in critical animal studies

A critical view on the relationships between humans and animals has become salient both within the public sphere and in academic discussions. An innovative research field - critical animal studies - has emerged to address the related issues. It employs a variety of tools, including theoretical constructs suggested by Michel Foucault. This article focuses on the potential of the Foucauldian tradition to analyze power in human - animal interactions. I reviewcritical research to describe various practices of power - external, internalized, and constitutive - and the proposals related to domination. How animals are treated in different contexts exhibits relations of power. This comprises control and termination, training and shaping, management and biopolitical regulation. Moreover, humans’ technologies of self-regulation manifest themselves in the approach to animals and the natural environment more broadly. It is indicated that to address the issue of power in human - animal interactions, recognizing the constructed nature of ontological boundaries is crucial, as well as acknowledging that power runs both within and across those frontiers. The critical approach might draw attention to the interconnectedness and interdependency of humans and nonhumans, as well as to their shared destiny in terms of their positions in the matrixes of domination and control. Whether anthropocentric or posthuman, future social research on animals must account for the critical tradition, social dialogue, and social activism.

Technological determinism goes aloft: notes on the human - machine issue in outer space exploration

The future of space exploration is unimaginable without broadening the role of technology. Already, the necessityof manned space expeditions is becoming increasingly problematized. This studylooks at the role of technology and human - machine relationships unfolding within national space programs through the lens of the ‘soft’ version of technological determinism suggested by Albert Borgmann. This theoretical tradition recognizes, without neglecting human agency, the shaping effect of technologyon human organization, prosperity and actions as well as on individuals’ relationships with the self and other. The commodification of technology - economic and ethical - is viewed to be the effects of technological expansion. Ethical commodification is characterized by disattachment of theindividual from the natural surrounding and from the self. In the field of space exploration, ethical commodification is associated with the process of automation that developed differently in distinctive national contexts. Thus, if the history of American spaceflight is characterized bythe initial struggle against automation, seen to be a means of disempowering astronauts as a professional group, the Russian space program favoured automation from the very beginning. In both contexts, however, automation eventually established itself and continues to shape contemporary perceptions on spaceflight. The accumulated experiences of man-machine interactions are useful for understanding ethical commodification as a social phenomenon. Drawing on the autobiographical narratives of Soviet / Russian cosmonauts, I specify the ways in which ethical commodification of hardware and software manifested itself in spaceflight and how it could be diverted. In conclusion, a perspective that resists alienation is suggested for the enterprise of space exploration at large.

The paper is devoted to historical and philosophical analysis of the patterns of conceptual representation in the theoretical models of scientific cognition which not only rely on Marx’s construal of systemic effects, but also imply some new contexts. The umbrella term “systemic effects” implies a peculiar mode of action of whatever complex system that cannot be explained by referring to the theoretical model of the linear cause-effect relationships between the elements and should be interpreted as the consequence of a certain degree of complexity of the system itself. Marx did not develop the original idea of representation as an explicit and complete theory, but he introduced the methodology of the analysis of the systemic effects that can be applied to the analysis of representation to wide extent. It is pointed out that the scientific cognition issued the challenge of reliable representations for the object domain and they tended to take the shape of conceptual models. The representation, being generallythe substitution of one entity for another, is considered as an aspect of pervasive social symbolization that occurs against a background of systemic effects in exactly the same way as the economic processes. It is concluded that just modified Marx’s stance became essential for the consideration of the forms of abstractive thinking, the formation of concepts, and the representational models both in general and in respect to specific problems of epistemology and philosophy of science.

Статья посвящена актуальной теме современной культурологи: взаимоотношение автора и его моделей, автора и зрителей в фотоискусстве. Автор в качестве «собеседников» выбирает Р. Барта и М. Бахтина. В диалогическом ключе развертывается размышление-повествование. Акт фотографирования рассматривается как бы с двух сторон: изнутри и со стороны. В процессе проговаривания происходит превращение автора в участника, а дистанция рассматривания превращается в дистанцию проживания. «Пластическая модель» становится одним из двойников художника-фотографа. Последовательность процесса, запечатленная в фотографии, выливается в создании стереопространства, аналогичного диалогу или полилогу в других видах искусства.

«Война невест»: между потреблением и переживанием

В статье представлены отдельные результаты аналитического социологического исследования, направленного на выявление глубины распространения ряда негативных тенденций в сфере брака и семьи в современной России. Проведен контент-анализ содержания фильма «Война невест» на предмет выявления транслируемых им брачно-семейных ценностей, репродуктивных установок и гендерных стереотипов. Данный фильм был выбран в качестве типичного образца западной (и созданной по ее образу и подобию отечественной) медиапродукции, активно формирующей типичные демографические практики поведения среди населения нашей страны. Статья разбита на тематические разделы. Во введении обозначен общий ракурс исследования, выявлена структура выбранного фильма как типичного в определенном жанре. Следующий раздел посвящен представлению в фильме ритуала обручения, а также «мужского» и «женского» в нем. Далее через обращение к теориям общества потребления описаны паттерны женственности. Также предложена трактовка показанной в фильме свадебной церемонии, эксплицирующей установки семейных отношений. Поведенный анализ, а также сам факт достаточно высокой популярности и степени одобрения рассматриваемого фильма среди российских зрителей позволил сделать вполне определенные выводы о текущем состоянии института традиционного брака в нашей стране и ближайших перспективах его развития. В частности, даже поверхностное следование отдельным образцам и стереотипам брачно-семейного поведения, представленным в фильме, способно значительно усилить тенденции деинституционализации традиционного брака в современной России.

«Линейка», «зарядка», «свечка»: воспроизводство порядка в ритуалах повседневности летнего лагеря

Летний детский лагерь представляет собой социальную среду, интенсивно воздействующую на своих участников за счет «вынесенности» за пределы обычной жизни, включающей ежедневные коллективные ритуалы. В статье представлены результаты социологического исследования лагеря «Интеграл», метод исследования - сплошной анкетный опрос, объект исследования - дети и подростки, отдыхавшие в лагере летом 2013 года. Летний лагерь был рассмотрен с использованием идей И. Гофмана о тотальных социальных институтах. Автором проанализирована информация о формальных и неформальных ритуалах повседневности летнего лагеря (линейка, хождение строем, вечерние мероприятия, дискотека). Детский летний лагерь, таким образом, является фильтром, эффективно отсекающим неправильное поведение, тем самым проверяя лояльность по отношениям к культурным образцам эпохи.

«Натуралистический поворот» и проблема изучения человека в когнитивных науках

Статья посвящена проблеме изучения человека в современном социально-гуманитарном знании, и в качестве исходной базы для исследования стала концепция второго Осевого времени, разработанная в трудах С.Э. Крапивенского. Авторы указывают на складывание новой парадигмы понимания человека, характеризуя эту парадигму как «натуралистический поворот», и рассматривают недостатки натуралистического понимания человека, считая, что оно игнорирует его духовность. В качестве отдельной концепции понимания человека в статье обозначен субъектоцентризм, согласно которому человек рассматривается как главный источник познания мира. В статье приводятся экспериментальные данные (данные опроса и конкретных эмпирических наблюдений), которые свидетельствуют об абсолютизации биологической и телесной природы человека в современной культуре. В результате подобной абсолютизации происходит подмена духовности человека его психофизиологическими характеристиками, которая приводит к разрушению основных качеств личности (рефлексивных, адаптационных, трансцендентных) в современной культуре.
