The article analyzes the global position, the dominant business and socio-economic lingua-franca of the English language in the contemporary world and the factors that contribute to this phenomenon. The article also analyzes the current policy and practice of teaching English in Uzbekistan, educational reforms in the country in the light of modern requirements.
