The article focuses on how a russian conservative philosopher Konstantin leontiev assessed Fyodor Dostoevsky’s attempt to give a «universal» interpretation of Christianity. The author sees the similarity of Dostoevsky’s and leontiev’s positions in the rejection of radical utopian and liberal projects for the transformation of russia. According to the author, the reason for the criticism of Dostoevsky’s «Christian humanism» with its apology for the value of human life as such lies in the aestheticism of leontiev who insisted on defining life as a means to achieve absolute aesthetic perfection.
