History of the formation of the criminal procedural law in Russia

The article highlights the legal acts regulating the formation of criminal procedure in Russia in the process of the development of Russian statehood. The paper examines the regulations which were applied to resolve criminal law conflicts from ancient times till the start of judicial reform in 1993. Starting from the “Russkaya Pravda” (Russian Truth), the article consistently covers all legal sources, developed in different historical periods in Russia for the regulation of criminal-procedural activities. In addition to description of the content of certain legal acts, the article also highlights the historical and political events that accompanied their adoption and pays attention to the leaders who headed the country in those periods. The presented material allows to trace the history of the formation of the criminal procedural law with the development of the Russian state.
