The article is devoted to the historical development of cooperation between Japan and Central Asian countries. The subject of analysis is the historical development of prospects of cooperation of Turkmenistan as a key state in the Central Asian region, which has the ability to focus on collaboration in Japan, and with the same major economic powers like China and South Korea. The basis of the research form historical mathematical and analytical methods. Opportunities for greater cooperation identified in the predictive method. The results of the work are the Central Asian countries and Japan in their relations overcome a number of sequentially successive historical stages. Currently, these relations are based on equal partnership as independent States. The results of the study can be applied in the design based on historic traditions of innovative interaction in the areas of social and cultural and economic interaction. The novelty of this study is the fact that the main element of historical Japan's foreign policy regarding the Central Asian region is the ability to use a policy of "soft power" the essence of which, in particular, is the scientific and historical cooperation in the implementation of cultural and educational programs in the investment attractiveness of the energy sector, telecommunications and infrastructure in General. All this is happening amid competition in the region with China and Russia, which have significant geopolitical influence in Central Asia.
