Interpretation of the shin teachings in the works of D.T. Suzuki

The article discusses the approaches of D.T. Suzuki to the interpretation of the Shin teachings. The author shows that D.T. Suzuki’s approach was specific due to its pursuit for a new interpretation of the teaching of Shin school in the conditions of rapid modernization experienced by Japanese society in the first half of the XX century. D.T. Suzuki presented the teachings of Shin-Buddhism in the categories of religious experience, mysticism and «Japanese spirituality», a special quality of the Japanese mentality. In D.T. Suzuki’s works, Shin-Buddhism is presented as an authentic and influential Buddhist teaching, which has not lost its significance in the modern era.
