Impact of oxidation on change in physical and chemical characteristics biodiesel made from different raw materials

Rancimat test (iso 6886), adopted as a part of the standard en 14214, requires a minimum induction period of 6 hours in order to determine the oxidation stability, and this period of time was set as a compromise between the requirements made by the engine manufacturer and biodiesel producers. However, unless antioxidants are added, this limit is difficult to achieve for biodiesel fuels produced from different raw materials. High predisposition to oxidation is the consequence of multiple double bonds present in the same chain of fatty acids, which happens in the case of linoleic and linolenic acid. This paper represents the monitoring of changes in physical and chemical characteristics of biodiesel produced from various raw materials as a result of his exposure to accelerated ageing.
