The article discusses the specifics of the icon „Saviour in Powers“, which, being a compositional and, apparently, semantic dominant of the Russian high Iconostasis of the 15th - 17th centuries, did not attract the attention of researchers for a long time. However, in the mid-1990s, the first works were published specifically dedicated to the issue of its origin and content; they became widely known and firmly entered the historiography of the issue. The subject of this article is one of these works - «Byzantine Heritage in the Art of Moscow Rus’ („Saviour in Powers“ in Russian Painting of the 14th - 15th centuries)» written by V. G. Putsko. Though more than twenty years have passed since its publication, the provisions and observations expressed in it have not met any verification and criticism in the literature and formally remain, thus, relevant. Below is the analysis and assessment of the article as a whole, a critical analysis of the methods of work of its author, correction of errors and inaccuracies of the description and the interpretation of the referenced monuments, as well as comments to them and their history.
