The article presents a comparison of the views of the German theologian, professor, priest Hans Küng and Archbishop Michael (Mudyugin) on the following issues: 1) proof of the existence of God; 2) hierarchy and monasticism; 3) The Sacrament of the Eucharist; 4) criticism of the Church. To do this, use the book of Hans Küng “The Christian Challenge” (2012) (“Die christliche Herausforderung”, 1980). The conclusions are made: 1) both theologians widely use the dialectical method in their reasoning; 2) opinions differ between both scientists; Archbishop Michael is restrained in his judgment; 3) Hans Küng talks about the conventions of Gospel events; Archbishop Michael holds conservative views; 4) both theologians affirm the need for a believer to stay in the Church, despite the problems of church life. The article notes the characteristic features of style in the writings of both theologians. We show that the book of Hans Küng, despite a number of rather controversial statements, contains reasoning and conclusions that don't contradict Orthodox theology.
