Межличностная теория суицида постулирует, что для тяжёлой попытки суицида или завершенного суицида суицидент должен обладать желанием умереть и способностью совершить самоубийство. Способность, предположительно, обретается со временем путем повторяющегося опыта болезненных и провокационных событий. Цель настоящего исследования - изучить линейные тренды двух граней приобретённой способности к суициду (бесстрашие к смерти, ощущаемая способность убить себя), среди учеников седьмого, восьмого и девятого классов (n=373). Результаты показывают, что мальчики обнаруживают линейный рост в бесстрашии к смерти, в то время как девочки растут в ощущаемой способности. Исследование в целом поддерживает предположения межличностной теории.
