The significance of the detention regime in temporary detention facilities for suspects and accused persons of internal affairs bodies to protect the rights and legitimate interests of crime victims

This article examines some of the practical aspects of police protection of victims of crime, taking into account the requirements of the Declaration of Basic Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power, adopted by UN General Assembly Resolution 40/34 of November 29, 1985. The regime of detention in temporary detention facilities for suspects and accused by the internal affairs bodies is considered as a requirement to ensure the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of victims of crimes. Based on the analysis of individual examples, the author emphasizes the connection between the organizational and practical activities of police officers and the implementation of the idea of the inevitability of responsibility and punishment of persons who have committed crimes, as well as legal protection of victims of crimes. The article draws attention to the need to improve the forms and methods of activity of security and escort police units, notes the role of preventing emergencies in the form of escapes or suicides of persons in custody to restore social justice and protect the rights and legitimate interests of victims of crimes. The conclusion is made about the importance of training police officers on the basis of practical situations in which the role of security and escort police units in the mechanism of protecting the rights and legitimate interests of victims of crimes is revealed.
