Western interpretation of "The Tibetan book of the dead"

The article is devoted to the most ancient Tibetan treatise «Bardo Thödol». It includes rituals performed over the dying person during leaving of his physical body and over the dead during his stay in the intermediate state of bardo before his new embodiment, and reading the instructions to them. The author considers its different translations to the European languages, commentaries, introductions, treatments and interpretations by the representatives of western culture, such as Buddhologists, psychologists and Buddhists.
