The relationship between psychophysiological features and emotional burnout of police officers

Introduction. The problem related to the study of the features of emotional burnout of police officers is relevant and important. The aim of the research is to reveal relationship between psychophysiological features and emotional burnout of police officers. Materials and Methods. The survey covered fifty police officers, their average age being 27,2 years, average term of service - 3,1 ± 2,2 years. The following methods were employed: “Emotional Burnout”, “Gottschaldt Figures”, “Readiness for Extreme Action”, “Landolt Rings”, “Memory for Faces”, “Memory for Time”. Spearman’s correlation coefficient was used. Results and Discussion. Burnout was considered from the aspect of “emotional exhaustion”, “depersonalization” and “reduction”. The specifics of correlation pleiades showing the relationship between emotional burnout symptoms of the “Tension” phase and psychophysiological parameters proves police officers’ effective counteracting negative psycho-traumatic circumstances. Correlations of the indicators under study during the “Resistance” phase testify to the decreased psychoemotional background, emotional oversaturation and indifference of police officers; during the “Exhaustion” phase - to the decrease in memory for faces and deterioration of tracking accuracy and target accuracy. Conclusions. The established shifts in psychophysiological indicators typical for phases of emotional burnout such as “Resistance” and “Exhaustion” can be included into the diagnostics and prophylaxis of psychoemotional state and the programme of neuro-psychic recovery.
