The article focuses on the issue of students' extracurricular activity organization and management in the modern university within the context of socio-pedagogical approach. Scientific interest in this subject is connected with the role of extracurricular activities in the development of modern students' professionally important qualities and their professional competence. The significance and potential of this type of activity in professional training is emphasized. The authors consider the intrinsic and informative characteristic of the concept "extracurricular activities", its correlation with social function of the modern higher education institution.
