Since blacksmithing, mankind has been working with steel for so long that it has devoted entire industries to the heat treatment and hardening of steel compounds to meet modern needs. Heat treatment is increasingly used in heavy industry. The main advantage of hardening steel by heat treatment is the achievement of the necessary properties and quality for steel. Heat treatment allows for a manufacturing process that can improve product performance by increasing steel strength, hardness, and other desirable characteristics. The composition of the steel affects its overall mechanical behavior. Heat treatment is an effective way to manipulate the properties of steel products by controlling the cooling rate. This can be expressed using the heat transfer coefficient. Controllability of the cooling process is very important. Fog and water nozzles can provide good controllability of the cooling rate.
