Бесплатный доступ

In the first half of the XIX century Russia's trade with the Eastern countries was on the rise. Owing to its position at the trade routes crossroads the Trinity Fair in Karsun became the centre of the trade in oriental goods in Simbirsk province. The trade was profitable for all participants as at the Fair goods from the Eastern countries were exchanged for Russian manufactory products. However, since 1840s the turnover of the Karsun Fair began to decrease, and Simbirsk became the new centre of fair trade in the province. Those changes were caused by the development of steam navigation on the Volga and the transfer of the fair from Makaryev to Nizhny Novgorod. As trade routes changed, Karsun lost its commercial significance.
