The shadow economy as a destabilizing factor in the development of the northern regions

The unstable economic situation in the country and a number of other specific factors determine the growth of the shadow economy in Russia in whole and in its Northern regions in particular. The shadow economy discussed in the article as a socio-economic phenomenon; it also defines its role, functions, effects on the economy of Northern regions. The authors proposed to develop a special methodology for the assessment of the shadow economy as a destabilizing factor for regional development of the North, which will take into account already existing experience and will be adapted to the peculiarities of the Northern territories.
