The article considers the essence and types of banking ecosystems that ensure the development of a service based on customer personalization. It was revealed that the decrease in the marginality of the banking business and competition from startups leads to the need to build ecosystems. Approaches to the interpretation of the concept of «ecosystem» are proposed. The characteristics of the ecosystem work tools are given. The necessity of theoretical study of banking ecosystems to improve the efficiency of their functioning is proved.
