Structural characteristics of the urban system

The article is devoted to the analysis and research of the structural characteristics of the urban system. The main components influencing the formation and functioning of urban networks, as well as their relationship with social and economic aspects are considered. The study is aimed at identifying the main patterns and factors that determine the structure of urban systems. The ideas put forward by W. Christaller and A. Lesch, D. Zipf are considered. The paper shows that the theory of central places supports the hypothesis that depending on their rank in the system of cities, their economic growth also differs.
