The formation of zemstvo statistics in the volga region (on the materials of the Samara and Saratov provinces)

The paper is devoted to the history of the zemstvo statistics in Samara and Saratov provinces: the first provinces of the Volga region where the statistical departments (bureaus) at provincial zemstvo’s executive body had started the regular statistical research of the peasant households and their social and economical status. The author comes to the conclusion that despite the difficult conditions of the formation of the zemstvo statistics, the Samara and Saratov statisticians had successfully coped with all their tasks.
