The emergence of Eurasianism

The article considers the problem of forming ideas of Eurasianism. The relationship of these ideas with the views of the Slavophiles was shown, the Slavophiles confronted Westernism and argued for the identity of the development of Russia and Orthodoxy. The Eurasians criticized European civilization ^for its commitment to represent their values as universal. They considered to create in the future a state with a Federal structure controlled by a leading «selection», with a one-party system, to form economy based on harmonious combination of collective and private property. They proposed to revise the traditional view of the interrelationship between the Russians and the Turkic and Mongolian peoples, who had played a significant role in the formation of the Russian state. This article covers the Eurasian views of L.N. Gumilev, N.A. Nazarbayev, Zh.M. Abdildin, A.G. Dugin and some other authors. The contemporary issues of the Eurasianism are analyzed. The attention is paid to the prerequisites of creation of the Eurasian Commonwealth. The importance of orientation of Russia to the Asia-Pacific region is underlined. The author proposes not to lose the existing forms of cooperation with the Western countries.
