In conditions of a complex crisis situation and significant food dependence, there is a need to increase the efficiency of all branches of production, and especially small forms of agricultural production, of peasant (farm) enterprises. Currently, peasant (farm) enterprises contribute to the development of agricultural production, facilitating a solution of the important task of providing food for the population of the country. So their share in the production of grain is more than 25%; sunflower seeds - more than 30%; vegetables - more than 15%; potatoes - about 9%; sugar beet - more than 10%; livestock and poultry for slaughter - about 3%; milk more than 6%; wool - about 40%. At the same time, the important role of peasant (farm) enterprises is connected with the solution of the problem of employment in the countryside, especially during the period of economic transformations and unfavorable external economic conditions. However, the analysis of trends in the development of peasant (farm) enterprises has revealed a number of problems that are especially acute in small forms of management and significantly restrict the possibility of realizing their potential to the full: financial shortages, high costs, weak material and technical base, underdeveloped production infrastructure, etc. The current situation in the agricultural sector requires the strengthening of state regulation to create conditions for the adaptation of agricultural commodity producers, including peasant (farm) enterprises to the market, to ensure the efficiency of their production in order to saturate the market with domestic food.
