The paper investigates the problem of classification of historical importance of crowning Mikhail Fyodorovich Romanov as Tzar by modern Russian historians in the context and the logic of development of the era known as the “Time of Troubles”, or Smuta. Authors of this paper compare points of view of Russian researchers, identify dominant historiographical trends related to definition of criteria to evaluate important historical events. The paper provides proofs supporting an opinion that modern Russian historiography is influenced both ante-revolutionary historiography and historiosophy of the Soviet period. The authors assert that the use of the communicative theory for the historical process creates an opportunity to objectively evaluate the place of monarchy in the medieval system of coordinates, and to educe its direct relationship with dominant religious mindset of the society.
