The problem of research and justification of its relevance. The necessity of training teachers in the field of formation of functional literacy of students in the educational process is actualized. The goal is determined, which consists in the scientific substantiation of the principles of building a teacher training program in the field of teachers' readiness to form the functional literacy of students. A review of the literature is conducted to identify the degree of development of the above-mentioned problem. It is stated that the scientific periodicals present a small number of studies on the improvement of professional competencies of teachers on the formation of functional literacy of students. The content analysis of the scientific literature on the research problem indicates the presence of open questions of scientists. The methodological basis is the ideas of A. N. Leontiev about the leading role of the subject's activity in its development. As the results of the study, a description of the principles of building an additional professional training program for teachers on improving professional competencies and the formation of functional literacy of students is proposed. The described principles can be supplemented by developers of additional professional training programs for educational workers. The theoretical significance consists in the development of ideas about the principles of the formation of advanced training programs that fully ensure the quality training of teachers to implement the requirements of the Standard in terms of the formation of functional literacy of students. It is assumed that the results of the study are of practical significance and will provide methodological assistance for improving teacher training programs. In conclusion, the main conclusions of the study are presented.
