The article discusses the legal framework for the protection of women who have been subjected to domestic violence. Spousal violence against women is an acute social problem for modern Russia, with economic and social consequences. In the Russian Federation, there are various legal acts and social norms regulating the protection of the rights of citizens faced with domestic violence. However, the existing socio-legal framework for protection is aimed at eliminating the consequences of violent acts, and not at regulating and preventing violence. A draft law aimed at preventing domestic violence is being discussed in Russian society. The need for this bill is confirmed by the increase in domestic violence, especially in recent years during the global COVID-19 pandemic. According to the results of sociological research, 70% of Russian residents consider it necessary to adopt this law.
