Socio-political situation of Syria under Bashar Asad (2000-2011)

The article is devoted to the problems of the development of the socio-political situation in Syria during the reign of B. Assad on the eve of the events of the "Arab Spring". The reforms of the party system, personnel changes are analyzed as a reflection of the internal hidden struggle between the new president and the old military-bureaucratic elite of the period of H. Assad's rule. It ended with a certain compromise with its most loyal part, with a significant increase in the influence of the role and influence of B. Assad, which actually meant a return to conservative authoritarian tendencies in the political system of Syria.
