The paper reviews a particular case of the Slavs penetration into EasternEurope in the 3rd quarter of 1,000 AD reconstructed by V. V. Sedov. These changes that tookplace in one locality of the Volga-Klyazma interfluve region brought about slavonizationof the local Finno-Ugric population mentioned in the chronicles as the Merya. The reviewof the arguments demonstrates that they are not sufficient to reach this conclusion. At the same time the paper describes some archaeological finds, which were not takeninto account by V. V. Sedov. For example, it presents an overview of hand-made ceramicswith a raised border
