Periodicals is one of the most important sources of historical information on the history of Russia in general, and on the history of the region in particular. However, the study of the history of Saratov. press attracts little ethnographers. Apparently, this is due to the lack of literature on this topic. At the same time, the State Archives of the Saratov Region have in their collections rich material on the history of the Saratov press of the late XIX - early XX century. The study of the conditions of existence of the press at that time was especially important and interesting, since then the process of the formation of long-awaited democratic freedoms was going on.
