Small and medium-sized businesses are an important part of the Russian economy and play a significant role in creating jobs and developing innovations. However, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic sanctions, entrepreneurs faced a number of difficulties. The article examines the role of modern small and medium-sized businesses in the Russian economy, analyzing statistics, as well as the problems and prospects for the development of this sector in a new reality. The impact of the imposed sanctions on the activities of Russian enterprises was considered. The work analyzed the latest measures of state support for small and medium-sized businesses in the Russian Federation, problems of taxation and access to financial resources, as well as opportunities to improve the investment climate and stimulate entrepreneurial activity, affecting the economic growth and innovative development of the country and domestic business. The processes of introducing digital technologies into various aspects of the business are proposed to increase its efficiency and competitiveness. Promising directions for the creation of new small and medium-sized enterprises have been identified and the peculiarities of doing business in the context of unprecedented sanctions pressure.
