Religion in construction of modern Buryat national idea

Religious affiliation as one of the differentiating features plays an important role in the discourse of ethnocultural identification. Actually religion, i.e. its institutions and practices are subordinated to the overriding idea of modeling space by giving it symbolic and sacred meanings. Therefore, religious affiliation serves as one of the characteristic features of the national image.
