2022 marks the 350th anniversary of the birth of the Russian Emperor Peter I (1672-1725), whose activities have left an indelible mark in the history of Russia. Materials and methods. The article uses historical and biographical methods, an axiological methodological approach aimed at finding value content in the activities of a historical character. The proposed article characterizes the reform efforts of Peter I in the field of education, and gives a biographical portrait of one of his most prominent associates, the priest and educator Feofan Prokopovich (1681-1736). Results . The article provides material on the activities of a number of educational institutions opened during the period of Peter's reforms, as well as little-known facts of Feofan Prokopovich's biography. Discussion . The merits of the above-mentioned historical figures in the field of education of the Russian people in the first quarter of the XVIII century are noted; at the same time, the emphasis is on the activities of Prokopovich, now almost forgotten educator. His friendly and business ties with Lavrenty Gorka (1691-1737), a prominent educator of the era of Peter I and Empress Anna Ioannovna, are shown. Conclusion . The conclusion is made about the need for further study of the heritage of outstanding Russians - Peter I and F. Prokopovich.
