Early detection and treatment of accommodation spasm in children

We examined 60 children (120 eyes) from 8 to 18 years old with accommodation spasm, asthenopic complaints and reduced vision from 0,5 to 0,6 After preliminary examination of eyes with a narrow pupil, a similar study was performed under standard cycloplegia using 1% tropicamide. The drug took effect within 25-30 minutes. After a single instillation of 1% tropicamide, the mean refractometry values were 0,75 ± 0,05 diopters.
