Purgasovo culture: on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of studies

The Purgasovo culture was singled out by the author after excavations ofPurgasovo 3 short-term camp in 1985. Its stone industry is based on parallel prismatictechnique of primary knapping. Secondary treatment is characterized by the use of ventraladzing of picks, burins, some scrapers and knives as well as serrate retouch and bifacialretouching of the edge. The weapon assemblage includes a set of distinctive items of huntingweapons, numerous combined implements and stone perforated sinkers. The collection ofarrowheads is quite large and, in addition to traditional barbed and tanged items and leafitems with flat ventral retouch, includes rather peculiar items with a slot at the proximaltip as well as large picks with serrated retouch at the tip and a slot at the base. The ageof Purgasovo artifacts is determined on the basis of anecdotal natural scientific data andanalogues from the sites and cultures of the Preboreal and Boreal periods
