Simple preterits in writings on birch barks: living language facts or the influence of book norm

The article deals with the controversial question on the interaction nature between bookish and colloquial language phenomena in the history of the Russian language. The author concludes that there's a potential presence of these forms in the Old Novgorod dialect on the basis of the occurrence analysis of the aorist and imperfect in birch barks manuscripts.
