L. R. Kyzlasov’s archival documents of the 1930s recreate the atmosphere ofactive cultural pursuits that surrounded the young man who lived in a provincial Siberiantown due to the influence of his parents and school. The meeting with V. P. Levashovaand S. V. Kiselev, archaeologists from Moscow who worked in Southern Siberia, ignitedhis interest in the science of ancient material objects, which he maintained throughoutsevere years of repressions and the Great Patriotic War and which subsequently broughthim to Moscow State University. After his graduation he dedicated his entire life to archaeology.
