The relevance of the research is determined by the lack of special works devoted to the integration of the Eastern Christian tradition of icon painting into Western culture. On the basis of the events and facts that influenced the formation of interest in the Orthodox icon, the main trends that contributed to the development of icon painting in the West are revealed: from the collection of icons as a phenomenon of the Eastern Christian tradition to optional practices within the framework of general dating with the cultural achievements of other confessions. It is concluded that the introduction to the living practice of icon painting in the modern socio-cultural space of the West testifies to the dynamics of the Orthodox tradition, and also on the basis of historical reflection, addressed to the legacy of the earlier United Church before the Great schism.
