This article raises the relevance of legal conflicts as a negative phenomenon affecting the legal relations of subjects. The concepts of the term "legal conflict" and its origin are given. The objective and subjective causes of these legal conflicts are highlighted using examples of Russian legislation. It also reveals the actual ways of resolving these legal conflicts and their principles of resolution, borrowed from Roman lawyers of Antiquity.
