The political process in Mongolia through the prism of electoral cycles

This article studies the regularities of the political process in post-socialist Mongolia through the prism of electoral cycles. As a parliamentary republic, Mongolia holds parliamentary elections every four years. Despite the competitive nature of the elections, there is a number of challenges to the effective functioning of the political system in the country. The most common phenomena in the electoral cycle of Mongolia are pre-election manipulations, pronounced protest voting, and instability of the governments formed by the parliament. As a result, the regular power’s change in the framework of the electoral procedures does not become a factor of improving the efficiency of Mongolia's political system. Moreover, this situation leads to the popularization of the presidential rule idea.
