Russian political police in the end of XIX - early XX centuries in Russian historiography

In the article pre-revolutionary, Soviet and Russian historical literature on the activity of the Russian Empire political police of the early XX century is analyzed. Basic problems which interested historians, who studied Russian law enforcement bodies, as well as aspects, which have remained unstudied, are outlined.
